It just kind of happened, came out of nowhere. I am a huge fan of Denzel Washington. If you were to ask me who my favorite actors were, I would have no idea years ago, and in the last several years, I've come to think it might be Tom Cruise. I love a lot of his movies, but off the screen, he is probably a hot mess.
I've enjoyed most of Denzel, Washington's movies, but when I hear him speak or do interviews it always captures my attention.
Then I saw the Equalizer movies! I could sit and watch those over and over, in fact, I have!
This commencement speech is awesome. I've listen to it over and over.
There's a theme here that we often hear expressed to young people: it's okay to fail. If you haven't failed, you haven't tried. Washington says "Fail Big!"
I'm asking this question among us quinquagenarians.... did they say this at our commencement speech?
I one hundred percent agree with the statement, and I live with regrets of not taking risks when I was able to- but I just don't remember this emphasis.
My dad, as an entrepreneur, took many risks. I was never really certain of the financial payout, but I think it was his drive alone that may have been satisfied. And that's good too.
For any young person reading this… Failing can be so much more fun when you are 18 to 25 then say 40 and above.
Fail big!
